Challenges of a working mom

Before now, mothers stayed at home to take care of the children while the fathers worked and brought home money for moms to run the homes. But today there is a shift in roles as moms are not just doing the full time work at home but they are also working and bringing back money for the family's upkeep. At working moms we know that the challenges are enormous and we have decided to make this spot a resource centre for nigerian working mothers.

I will like our moms especially those in the career climbing jobs to pay attention to this. Yes you no doubt want to make an impression at your work places in order to earn your promotions and bring home the needed finances. But in doing so, I will encourage our executive moms to earn their promotions without sorrow. I want your joy to be full but how can this happen without one role being joepardised? Often, mothers make a lot of sacrifices just to be there for their children. But as a career mom it may not be easy especially in a society where corporate bodies care les about moms at work. I will like to draw your attention to an event that happened some months back infront of R-Jolad hospital in Gbagada lagos...

I was driving past Jolad to connect to the 3rd mainland Bridge for an onward journey to Victoria Island to meet a client but got stuck in an unusual traffic jam at a time that traffic is are not seen around this area, as I got to Jolad I saw an elderly woman carrying a baby, and shouting doctor oh! doctor oh! the baby would probably be about 8 months old or there about. As a mom I didnt remeber i was rushing to VI for a meeting, I packed my car, came down to find out what the matter was with the woman and her child, People gatherd around her and were asking questions, When asked the woman said that the baby is not hers but her neighbors son, but the neighbour in question has gone to work as she is a banker, the woman reported that she overheard the house girl who is taking care of the baby crying and begging baby to wake up, she then sensed that something was going wrong upstairs, when she got there she saw medications on the table, apparently the baby has just been administered with some drugs that didnt go down well, or even an overdose. she then quickly rushed the baby to Jolad where I met them, By the time the doctor came, checked for pulse of the baby, shook his head in regret, I left the scene because i did not want to watch the doctor confirm a very handsome and innocent child dead, so I left to my car and cried my eyes out for a child who I am not his mother, then my secretary asked; "Madam, if you cry like this for this child, i wonder what will happen if the child is related to u.

I forgave my secretary's comment because she is not yet a mom, and will not understand the feeling of a mom towards a baby, of course you know if there is no baby, there will be no mother, That is the bond, that is motherhood and all that comes with a mom.

Why am I telling this story that i have fought very hard to forget? It is because moms who are working far from their homes needs to a great extent balance the act of juggling. Please take time to engage in this blog because together all of us moms will think up the many ways of balancing our homes and work places. Here are some tips I think we should take time to absorb in hiring a care giver for our children;
  • Do not take a maid who is illitrate because she may administer the wrong dosage/medcine to your child.
  • Before you leave your child in the care of someone other than you, pray about that person and ultimately, let God decide for u.
  • Take time to Label the prescription of your childs medication, if need be, write it in the language your child's care giver understands and reads.
  • Wherever you are always remember to pray for your children.
  • keep a telephone line in your home make sure you are updated about the happenings at ur home.
  • Once in a while try and get home at hours that you are not expected to be home.
  • Treat your childs care giver right, and live the rest for God to do.
  • Be parannoid for your children it helps to put you in check at all time.
  • Always child-proof your home
