Chimamanda Adichie Welcomes New Baby

Chimamanda'baby announcement could possibly win an award for 'the most creative baby announcement', renowned writer and novelist, Chimamanda Adichie who got pregnant in mid 2015 welcomed her first child recently, a baby girl. She revealed the news in a recent interview that was held in Lagos, where she said,
“This is the first time I’m saying it publicly. I have a little girl. I have some friends who probably don’t know I was pregnant or that I had a baby, I just feel like we live in an age when women are supposed to perform pregnancy. We don’t expect fathers to perform fatherhood. I went into hiding. I wanted it to be as personal as possible” She however didn’t reveal the name of her child.

Young Mother of Two Allegedly Beaten To Death By Husband At Their Home In Lagos

A Lagos based young mother of 2 named Ronke Bewaji Shonde was allegedly beaten to death by her husband yesterday morning May 6th at their home at Tiemo Crescent off Awori street in Egbeda Lagos.

A family friend who reached out to the press, informed that Ronke and her husband had a fight in the early hours of the morning at their home while their kids were sleeping.

A neighbour to the deceased reported also that he heard the noise coming from Shonde''s flat early in the morning but didn't think it was something horrific going on in the home.

The unsuspecting neighbours didnt realise what had happendd until about 7am next morning when the couple's nanny resumed work. She resumed work on this fateful morning only to find the house locked and no one was opening the door. She tried to call her madam but her phone was switched off. This she found unusual.

The Nanny peeped through the window only to find the couple's 6 and 4 year old kids crying and saying they couldn't wake their mum up. By this time, neighbours had also gathered and they forcefully opened the door to find Ronke's lifeless body on the floor, blood gushing from her head.

The husband, Lekan Shonde, was nowhere to be found. Ronke's phone was also missing. He'd locked the kids with their dead mum in the house and took off with her phones.

Her body has since been deposited at the mortuary. She was in her mid-30s.

According to family friends, Ronke suffered domestic violence in her husband's hands for many years but refused to leave the marriage.

This is quite a sad event and we do hope that more women will begin to speak up on account of domestic violence before it takes ones life. The first time a woman is beaten in marriage, she is a Victim but the second and subsequent times she is beaten, the woman becomes a volunteer. It is a pity that this beautiful young life had to be cut off in such a manner. It is hoped that this serves as warning to others who are going through one pain of domestic violence or another.  Leave to stay alive for yourself and kids. Not Every Marriage is worth saving but Every LIFE is worth saving.

It was then sounded as a means to assist indigent children living with limb loss gain access to prosthesis that would enable them live independently. "The IREDE Foundation will continue to stage “Out on a Limb” awareness campaigns annually to create public awareness to the plight of child amputees", the statement further revealed.
